Iowa schools must have their budgets certified by Wednesday.

However, lawmakers still haven’t decided on the levels of funding for next school year, and there may not be any movement for some time.

Republicans continue to stick with their original proposal of a 1.25 percent increase. Democrats asked for a four percent increase, but have also said they would meet in the middle at 2.625 percent.

There are no conference committees scheduled to work on a compromise as of now.

Last week, the Des Moines school board passed a budget as if levels were set at a 1.25 percent increase.
