Iowa City and Ames are showing up in a new ranking, but it might not be something to brag about.

24/7 Wall Street ranks Ames the eighth drunkest city in the United States. The report claims 24 percent of adults report either binge or heavy drinking within the last month.

While there are only seven cities that drink more than the home of Iowa State University, adults there are less likely to engage in risky behavior associated with drinking, the report says.

The home of the University of Iowa falls behind Ames at No. 19. The survey shows 23 percent of adults in Iowa City report excessive drinking habits.

The survey mentions income as a contributing factor, saying binge drinking is more common in households earning at least $75,000 a year. The median household income in Iowa City is $59,791, and the median household income in Ames is $46,091.
