Comments made by Iowa congressman Steve King in July stirred up conversation at an immigration reform forum in Ames Friday.

Iowa senator Tom Harkin and Illinois senator Dick Durbin took part in the forum.

The event features farmers, students, small business owners and DREAMers. DREAMers are people who were brought to the U.S. as minors by their parents but are undocumented

King recently made a comment that referred to undocumented immigrants as drug smugglers.

At Friday's event, Senator Harkin said just because one misguided person uses degrading language, it doesn't affect what the people of Iowa and this district believe.

Senator Durbin, who authored the Dream Act, said “We have a broken immigration system.  It's time to face the reality and do the right thing.”
