JOHNSTON, Iowa–Nearly 100 people turned out to take part in Johnston’s annual Run for the Trails 5k Saturday morning. But the town’s mayor provided the entertainment of the day after shrieking when a bucket of ice-cold water drenched her.

The annual run raises money for the upkeep and expansion of Johnston’s 34-mile trail system. Afterwards, Mayor Paula Dierenfeld, an avid runner, then accepted a challenge from the Johnston School Board and took the A.L.S. Ice Bucket Challenge.

A Johnston resident dumped the bucket over Dierenfeld’s head. Watch the mayor’s reaction:

Dierenfeld challenged other Des Moines metro mayors to take the Ice Bucket Challenge.
