The State Patrol has released the name of the driver responsible for an 8-mile detour on Interstate 35 the last few days.

Officials say 57-year-old Ronald Gage of Waterloo was hauling a back-hoe when he hit a bridge near Bevington Monday night.

The bridge was badly damaged causing the DOT to shut down a section of I-35 while crews work to remove 6 beams and stabilize the bridge.

The DOT expects the interstate to re-open early Friday, but the bridge will remain closed for some time.
