A central Iowa effort to feed the world’s hungry will begin next week.

The annual Meals From the Heartland Hunger Fight, the nation’s largest volunteer food packaging effort, begins Wednesday.

Volunteers will pack in 2 hour shifts at Hy-Vee Hall in downtown Des Moines until Saturday, August 31.

The goal for this year’s Hunger Fight is to pack at least 5 million meals during the four day event.

All meals packaged  will be provided to children and families in need internationally as well as locally.

Registration to volunteer at the event can be completed online.
