HOUSE FIRE: Smoke Detectors Save Residents

Des Moines firefighters were called to a home on the city’s east side early Thursday morning.

Residents of 2326 E 39th Court called 911 at 1:38 p.m. after smoke detectors went off and they discovered a fire in a back bedroom.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the bedroom.  The rest of the home suffered some smoke damage. Overall, damage from the fire is thought to be about $10,000.

The two occupants of the home were able to escape safely and the Red Cross is assisting them.

Investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire.
