A Des Moines woman found a surprise when she got home from work Monday.

The 27-year-old returned to her east side home just before 4:00 p.m. and saw a man at her front door. She initially thought it was her husband because it was dark and they had a similar build.

When she called her husband’s name, the man frantically exited the home. He got away with her jewelry box, but left behind the handguns and rifles he was trying to take. The suspect left the scene in a silver car that a neighbor told police may have been a four-door Oldsmobile.

The victim say it appears the suspect broke a back window to get inside.

No arrests have been made in the case.
