Gov. Terry Branstad announced a new initiative Monday that is aimed at promoting home ownership and could help you spruce up your place.

The Summer Homeownership Contest is a way for home owners to show off their best home improvement projects for a chance to win.

Participants will be asked to write a word or short phrase that best describes the project on a memo board and submit the photo during the month of June.

Entries will be voted on by the public on Facebook and the winner will get a $2,500 Lowe`s gift card

“We look forward to seeing the results of this contest, all of the fun project ideas, and Iowans taking pride in their greatest asset, their homes.  So best of luck,” says Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds.
