Cars and trucks struggled through Iowa roads on Sunday but plans continued to take off at Des Moines International Airport.

“No late flights, no late backups.  No late nothing, it was great,” said traveler Joby Matthais.

Crews were clearing off the runways early Sunday morning.

Some passengers said their flights were delayed a few minutes but the slight delays were nothing out of the ordinary.

Some families said despite Sunday’s extreme weather, they have seen much worse around the holidays.

“She went to Chicago and she was delayed three days into Chicago, so we’re not going there this year.  We’ll just sit here and wait for her here,” said Ankeny resident Jennifer Waringer.

Airport officials recommend for those traveling this week to check the status of flights before you leave for the airport.
