HOG MESS: It took hours to clean up after a semi in eastern Iowa overturned, releasing nearly 200 hogs on the highway

More than 180 hogs were released when a semi overturned on a busy road in eastern Iowa Wednesday morning.

The accident happened just before 4:30 a.m. on Highway 20 westbound near Dike. The semi driver said he was heading to Tyson’s in Waterloo when he lost control on the highway.

Law enforcement, the semi-driver and several others spent hours rounding up the dozens of hogs.

No people were injured, but several of the hogs were killed.
