ALTOONA, Iowa — Drivers in Altoona will be under the watchful eye of law enforcement Thursday.

Law Enforcement Officers from many central Iowa jurisdictions will be enforcing all traffic laws while paying close attention to seatbelt usage and speed in the evening hours.

“Statistics show that wearing seat belts saves lives and following traffic laws reduces the number and severity of motor vehicle accidents.  These projects are intended to raise awareness of safe driving habits in order to save lives,” a press release says.

The special enforcement was organized by the Central Iowa Traffic Safety Task Force and Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau.
