Retiring Iowa senator Tom Harkin has decided he will leave his papers to Drake University.
The announcement that the papers and the Harkin Institute will have a new home came Friday morning on the Drake campus.
It ends a month- long feud with Harkin’s alma mater, Iowa State University, over how the university would operate Harkin’s institute and how it would allow researchers to use the senator’s papers.
Former ISU president Gregory Geoffroy was supposed to head the institute at Iowa State and will follow the papers to Drake in a similar advisory role for the institute.
The Harkin Institute at Iowa State had nearly $3 million in donations and pledges by April but it isn’t clear how many of those donors will transfer their financial support to Drake.
