A man was shot in the hand at one of the metro’s largest gun shows.

The vendor was setting up his display about an hour before the show opened to the public when his gun accidentally discharged. He was not seriously hurt and did not go to the hospital.

Show organizers say the vendor broke their number one rule: all guns on display must be unloaded.

“If you don’t follow the rules, you know, it’s just like gun control…you try to enforce everything as much as you can, but if somebody doesn’t follow the rules…you can’t stop stupid,” Gun Show Manager Daryl Klein said.

The vendor has been banned from the show, which will continue in the 4-H Building at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines through the weekend.
