DES MOINES, Iowa- The 25th Annual Heatland Nationals, Goodguys Rod & Custom Association car show has filled the Iowa State Fairgrounds with may old classic cars,  and street rods.

The show is also known for its autocross racing.

One of the racers is Indianapolis 500 winner, Al Unser Jr.  He is racing a 1970 Camero at the Autocross event here.

“We have a great time at the good guy car shows its competitive with the autocross,” said Unser. “I enjoy this you know back in the IndyCar days we really didn’t have time to talk to the fans so when we come out here now it’s much more relaxed.”

While Unser may be a veteran racer, one at this event was a novice. Michelle Tindall came from Indiana for her first race, her fiancee finished putting her GMC truck together on Wednesday.

“I told him he definitely had to be done by her wedding which is July 23,” said Tindall. “It’s just a thrill, it’s gonna like a roller coaster enthusiasts I love to go fast and this kind of vehicle can do that for you.”

The show runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.
