Gas prices are down just in time for the holiday weekend, but prices are still higher than they usually are at this time of year.

The current national average for a gallon of unleaded is $3.65.  That is down 16 cents from last year but is still the third highest price on record for a Memorial Day weekend.

That price is down 28-cents from this year’s peak.

The average price in Iowa is $3.43, nearly a quarter less than the national average.
