DES MOINES, Iowa — The State Auditor’s Office says a western Iowa town’s former city clerk misspent more than $230,000.
Leaders in the town of Neola requested a special investigation after the current city clerk found irregularities in their finances.
Investigators now report Deb Schierbrock misused thousands over five years. More than $100,000 went to pay for non-city expenses. The special investigation also showed she failed to charge herself or others late fees on their utility bills.
Schierbrock was fired back in 2013. The report has been forwarded to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Pottawattamie County Attorney’s Office, and the Attorney General’s Office.
