FLOODING HAVOC: Roads Closed, Boil Advisory Placed

road closuresThe recent downpours have been taking their toll on roads and drainage systems in southern Iowa.

Thursday morning, many roads have been closed because of flooding:

  • Highway 34 between Chariton and Lucas
  • Highway 65 south of Lucas
  • Highway 92 between 163 and T25 near Oskaloosa
  • Highway 5 from T17 to Highway 92 near Knoxville

Along with the Highway 5 flooding in Marion County, customers in Attica and Pershing are without water. Marion County Rural Water advices that once water is reconnected, a boil advisory will be in place.

Flood waters contributed to the water main break there.

The storms also knocked out power to more than a thousand people in Des Moines. As many as 1400 MidAmerican customers lost power at one point Wednesday night.

Most of those were in the Sherman Hill neighborhood and along Cottage Grove Avenue.

Alliant energy reported around 500 customers without power.

Over 5″ of rain fell in the last 24 hours in places with more expected through the day.
