PLEASANTVILLE, Iowa — Fire crews are on the scene of a church fire in Pleasantville that began early Monday morning.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office confirms multiple fire departments are on scene at 308 W. Dallas St. in Pleasantville, battling flames at the Pleasantville Christian Church.
Video from our crew on the scene shows much of the church’s roof has collapsed.
Rev. Donald Naftz tells Channel 13 he woke to the sound of breaking glass around 5:15 a.m. and noticed flames coming from the back of the church. He called 911 and says he went outside where he found another person outside the church, who had just called 911 as well.
Naftz said there were renovations being done to the 120-year-old church, which was the heart of the community.
There’s no word yet on what may have caused the fire.
Channel 13 has a crew on the way and will bring you more information on www.WHOtv.com and in the 13Now app when it is available.
