A West Des Moines firefighter suffered minor injuries Wednesday morning after fire crews were called out to a house fire near the Valley Junction area.

Firefighters were called to 408 11th Street just after 5:30 a.m. the resident of the home woke up to use and restroom and noticed smoke in the house. He exited the home before fire crews arrived.

Firefighters were able to get the flames out quickly, but did monitor hot spots on scene.

An estimate of damage to the home was not available and investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.

They don’t know whether there were any working smoke detectors in the home.

One firefighter received minor injuries and is being treated at the hospital.  He’s expected to be okay and will be released later Wednesday.
