Fire investigators are looking into a fire on the city’s north side.

Crews were called to 4125 3rd Street just before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.  The call came in as a medical alert.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found a small fire in the living room of the home.  They also found the body of an elderly female.

Captain Steve Brown with the Des Moines Fire Department said there was a lot of smoking materials on the floor of the home, but did not say that was the cause of the fire.

The fire was put out quickly and fire investigators were called in.

The cause of death has not been determined.  Captain Brown said, “It’s really hard to determine a fire death mainly because we have a couple different things.  It could have been something, illness.  It could have been the C O from the fire.  So, right now we’re going to wait and see what we can get probably from the autopsy to determine exactly what the cause was.”

No one else was in the home at the time of the fire.
