STATE CENTER, Iowa — A granary was burned to the ground Tuesday.

The Clemons Fire Department was called to 1425 180th St. around 11:45 a.m. after getting a report of multiple buildings on fire. When firefighters arrived, they found a wooden granary fully engulfed in flames.

The granary was a total loss, but fire crews were able to save the nearby barn. A pickup truck on the property was damaged in the fire.

“The best fire is the one you don’t have to unroll any hose. We thank all the other departments for their assistance we try to do the same for them,” said Clemons Fire Chief Larry Fricke. “It’s mutual aid, so everybody works together.”

No injuries were reported.
