No criminal charges will be filed against a Des Moines teen in connection with an accident that killed a motorcyclist last week.

Des Moines Police say 16-year-old Michael Peterson will not be charged criminally in the accident that killed 23-year-old James Messner on September 19th.

Police say Messner’s motorcycle struck the driver door of Peterson’s car in the 2100 block of Grand Avenue. Peterson was making a U-turn when the motorcycle hit his car. Police say he had been parked along the side of the road and was pulling out when the accident happened.

Police say the crash was unintentional.

Peterson has been cited for failure to yield upon entering a roadway.
