More than 100 tractors, some nearly a century old, went on the auction block this week. It took a lifetime to collect and spans eras of agricultural history.

The collection was the life’s work of Dave Hawkins of Le Mars.

Before he passed away, he told his family he wanted them to sell off his tractors.

Not just for the money, but to spread his love of classic tractors and preserve farming heritage.

“It started in 1929.  His dad bought a D, and it’s been in the family ever since. We’re keeping it, but that tractor started the whole collection. When his dad passed away, he kept it, and that kind of started his interest,” explains Alex Popken.

Buyers came from as far away as Washington State, Florida and Canada.

The Hawkins family brought in around $500,000 at the auction.
