Legislation designed to keep the 132nd Fighter Wing in Des Moines is picking up steam in Washington.

The bill, backed by Iowa congressman Tom Latham, was approved by the House Appropriations Committee Thursday and Friday it was passed in the House.

The bill would freeze the retirement of all Air National Guard aircrafts until a cost-benefit analysis is completed.

The Pentagon has proposed cutting the 132nd’s 21 F-16 fighter jets in order to meet billions of dollars in budget cuts.
