There hasn’t been a new Des Moines public school since 2007, but that’s about to change.

Friday, school leaders are hosting a ground breaking for a new Edmunds Elementary.  It will be built just north of the current school.

Full on construction begins the first week of June, and the school will be complete in August of 2013.

The tab for the school adds up to about $10 million.

This is the first brand new school built in the city since George Washington Carver Community School.  It opened five years ago.
