As the Division III tournament wraps up, Des Moines is preparing to hold the NCAA Wrestling Division I National Championships.

It’s a tournament that will bring thousands of people to the metro.

“These folks are going to be spending all throughout the community whether it be in just hotels, restaurants, they`re going to be shopping, they`re going to be out doing other things entertaining themselves so it`s a great impact,” said President and CEO of Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau, Greg Edwards.

Des Moines began preparing for the tournament four years ago when it won the bid to host the event.

The fan fest kicks off on Wednesday followed by the tournament starting Thursday.

Edwards said they expect 25,000 people will come to Des Moines for the tournament.
