It's hard to believe but some area schools are already wrapping up the school year!
The Van Meter district sent its students packing for summer break today.
Because of Iowa’s mild winter Van Meter had zero snow days, allowing the earlier than normal dismissal.
School officials also say, they were able to start the beginning of the year in mid-August.
That let them finish up the semester before winter break keeping the curriculum moving.
The district's superintendent says in his 30 years of education experience he's never seen a winter without at least one snow day.
“The winter been so mild we haven't had any snow days, so last year i think we went until June 7th, so for the Van Meter students and parents this is a pleasant surprise,” says Superintendent John Carver.
Van Meter wasn't the only school in the area to clear out classrooms today.
Waukee and Woodward Granger school districts also finished up the school year.
