HUXLEY, Iowa — Traffic on the northbound lanes of Interstate-35 was backed up after a dump truck hit an overhead bridge between Ankeny and Ames.

The Iowa State Patrol says the incident happened shortly after 6:30 a.m. Thursday at the Huxley exit.

The driver told police he accidentally pushed the button to lift the box but wasn’t aware of it. The hydraulics made the truck lose power before it hit the overpass. The box then became wedged under the bridge.

The driver was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames suffering from minor injuries.

The northbound lanes were shut for about an hour so authorities could remove the box and inspect the bridge, which they assessed to be undamaged.

Drivers were diverted around the incident via the Huxley exit and entry ramps.

The road was reopened at about 9 a.m.

The incident remains under investigation.
