DROWNING DEATH: Former Professor Found In Creek

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a Des Moines man. Former Drake University Professor Dean Allen Hoganson was found dead in the Roberts Creek area after his boat was found floating around unattended.

Hoganson was found 100 yards from the shore. The Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Marion County Conservation , U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Pella EMS all responded to the scene around 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Rescue efforts to resuscitate Hoganson were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was a retired Professor of biology at Drake.
