DES MOINES, Iowa — Early child education may soon be more affordable for some parents in Central Iowa

Drake University’s “Head Start” program was selected to receive a $1.1 million grant from the U.S. government.

The money will be dispersed to eight local urban childcare centers, that will increase the quality of year-round, full-day service for infants and toddlers.

It will also require teachers at those centers to get a “childhood development associate’s degree.”

The funds will kick in at the beginning of next year.
