DES MOINES, Iowa – Donating blood always comes with the incentive of knowing you saved a life, but Saturday donors at the Life Serve blood drive at Principal Park got an extra incentive: a free Iowa Cubs game ticket.

“Every time you come in, you can save up to three lives,” said Melissa Chapman, group leader of the Life Serve blood drive. “And of course, we supply a lot of hospitals in the area. And unfortunately, the need for blood is very high.”

Chapman says this time of year, blood clinics are always low on blood. They partner with the Iowa Cubs at Principal Park annually, but this year, the drive fell on Labor Day Weekend, meaning they had a lower turnout.

“Even one donation, though, would be considered a success,” she said.
