DES MOINES, Iowa – Des Moines police are investigating a shooting at a home on the city’s east side.

A call came in around 12:25 p.m. about a shooting at 1403 Dean Avenue. The call was from a female inside the house who told police she shot her ex-boyfriend.

Police arrived on the scene to find 34-year-old Byron Williams with a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was up walking and talking to police. Williams was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

“I think it’s safe to say if everything we’re hearing at the scene here plays out, charges are probably unlikely,” Sgt. Paul Parizek said. “There’s a history of domestic calls to this address. We’ve had greater than ten calls to this address in six months.”

There was a small child at home during the shooting who police say was not harmed.
