DES MOINES, Iowa – Police are investigating the city’s 8th homicide of the year. A shooting Friday killed one man near the 2600 block of Hickman Lane.

Police were called around 4:30 p.m. about shots fired in the area and also received a call about someone down in the road on Hickman Lane near 26th Street. When they arrived they found a man dead from an apparent gunshot wound.  “Officers responded as well as medics. They did find a white male adult lying down on the ground” says Des Moines Police Sergeant Jason Halifax, “(We) Believe that is where the shooting took place.”

Officials have not released the name of the man and say they don’t have any information about a suspect at this time. One of the callers to 911 said they heard a vehicle leaving area at a high rate of speed following the shooting.

Police have been going door to door to interview neighbors.
