DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines man was convicted of vehicular homicide on Wednesday after a high-speed crash occurred in November of 2015.

Police say 24-year-old Troy Mure Jr. was going 90 miles per hour when he crashed into a pole in Des Moines. His girlfriend and passenger, 22-year-old Scalicity Boyd was thrown from the car and killed.

Mure Jr. claimed the two were being chased by a silver Cadillac with at least one armed man inside, and when the driver tapped his bumper, he lost control and slammed into a telephone poll.

The state says there was no evidence that Mure Jr. was hit from behind.

Mure Jr.’s sentencing is set for June 2.
