DES MOINES, Iowa — Home sales are on the rise in the Des Moines metro, surging in the first three months of the year, The Des Moines Register reports.
A strong housing market was predicted for 2015, due to consumer confidence and lower down payment requirements aimed first-time buyers.
This year first quarter sales were up 19 percent compared to the same time last year, data released Friday by the Des Moines Area Association of Realtors shows.
It is still early in the season as well. Home sales typically don’t hit their stride until later in the spring.
The data also showed that home sale prices increased in the first. The median sale price was $156,000, up from $147,500 during the first quarter of 2014.
Homes are becoming harder to find with about about 30 homes coming on the market for every 36 sold.
At the end of March there were 3,381 listings, down 10 percent from 3,765 at the same point last year.
