CLIVE, Iowa — Clive police are investigating what appears to be an accidental death.

Clive police officers found a man dead after conducting a welfare check at a residence in the 9100 block of Franklin Avenue on Tuesday.

Police initially thought the man’s death was suspicious based on his condition and items located at the residence, but further investigation led them to believe the man’s death was accidental.

“While we continue to look at the evidence, indications are this was an accidental death. Our thoughts are with the family as they struggle with the loss of their loved one,” the Clive Police Department said on Twitter.

Police said there is no threat to the public at this time.

The Polk County Medical Examiner will now conduct an autopsy.
