BOONE, Iowa – Steve Krafcisin played one season at North Carolina before transferring closer to home at Iowa. The emotions of opening a letter from the late, Dean Smith showed just how much that one year meant to him. “It’s still letting those flood of memories come then you don’t think there’s going to be that many *new memories from North Carolina experience,” says Krafcisin.

The letter is one of 180 $200 checks that Smith posthumously sent to his North Carolina letter winners with the directions to have a “dinner out.”

Krafcisin is one of only two players to play in two Final Four’s for two different teams. His first stop was at North Carolina where he scored two points for the Tar Heels in the 1977 National Title game.

Then he finished his career under Lute Olson at Iowa where they played in the Hawkeyes most recent Final Four. “You never know how a transfer is going to go. I was incredibly blessed to play for lute to play with the players that we played for,” say Krafcisin.
