WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — An explosion caused a building to partially collapse as firefighters battled a blaze early Tuesday morning.

Firefighters responded to the 100 block of South 11th Street in West Des Moines, just south of Valley Junction, at about 4:15 a.m.

Crews reported hearing an explosion from inside the storage building about 20 minutes after they arrived on the scene. It’s not clear what caused the explosion but there were reports that a propane tank was inside the building.

Crews had the fire under control Tuesday morning but remained on the scene to extinguish hot spots.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time. No one was seriously injured.
