COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — A Council Bluffs infant died Friday after falling from a bunk bed ladder, The Daily Nonpareil reported.

At about 10:30 a.m., the 18-month-old boy was playing with his 3-year-old brother when he fell off the ladder, the Council Bluffs Police Department said. The infant was transported to Methodist Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital, where doctors pronounced the child dead, Sgt. Chad Meyers said.

The child’s father was at home at the time of the incident, Meyers said. The two kids were in an upstairs bedroom during the incident.

Police said an autopsy is scheduled for this weekend, however, they do not suspect foul play at this time.

Authorities have not release the child’s name until the family has an opportunity to notify relatives.

The accident is at least the third fall at the apartment complex in the last two years.

A 2-year-old boy fell from a second-story window last month. In May 2013, another 2-year-old boy suffered head and neck injuries after falling from a different second-story window.

In both of the previous cases, the boys survived.
