PELLA, Iowa — Plans to construct a new Casey’s General Store in Pella have upset many nearby residents.
The store would be built at Main and Union and at Pella’s city council has been considering whether to re-zone the area to allow construction. At Tuesday night’s meeting the council passed the second reading on that plan.
Many who live near the site aren’t sold on the project. They say they’re concerned about traffic and gas fumes becoming a problem.
Others say Pella is ready for a newer, bigger station.
Wade Davidson, part-owner of the Lamppost Lounge, says, “I think the flowage will be a lot better, you know, be more parking over at the other one. Over here, you now being right on the four way, you know it`s taking up a lot of space and you know you got cars in and out constantly so I do think having a bigger lot and having people in and out, a couple more ways to get out will help out.”
There is still one more reading by the city council before the rezoning is officially adopted.
If it is, Casey’s has plans to close some of its other stores in Pella.
