This weekend the metro area will be combining two interests – bicycles and gardening.

The second annual event, Pedal to Petals will kick off at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, Sunday.

“Not only is it good exercise, it’s a great learning experience for all our participants,” says botanical garden board member, Carl Varley.

The tour runs two routes over 8 miles or over 33 miles and will visit up to three gardens all from a bike path.

Riders will take in the Des Moines and Raccoon Rivers and is great for those who like to look at gardens or sculpt one of their own, “We’ll have experts at all these locations you can ask questions you can talk about plants, you can talk about how you get started,” Varley explained. “Or what you need to do to make your garden look (great).”
