The Des Moines officer pinned by a tail end of a truck last weekend is improving.

Lieutenant Joe Gonzalez is out of ICU and moved to a regular room.

Gonzalez broke 13 ribs and two lungs collapsed in the accident outside the World Food Prize building.

The driver who pinned Gonzalez remains under investigation but Sergeant Jason Halifax of the Des Moines Police Department says, “It doesn’t appear as though we’re going to have charges but investigations aren’t quite done yet.”

Gonzalez’ brother says that the 38-year-old is well-respected, well-liked, and well-known by his community.
