Three local high school coaches are on suspension.

School officials say Lincoln High School football coach Tom Mihalovich and two assistant coaches Kevin Johnston and Larry Gamblin are on administrative leave due to a school investigation.

In a statement released Wednesday evening, Milhalovich said he would not comment on his suspension out of respect for the school’s investigation. He closed the statement with, “What I can tell you is that for twelve years I have devoted my life’s work to building a proud and strong football program at Lincoln.  I am known to be a tough but fair coach when there is an infraction or when athletes do not follow team rules. I will cooperate fully with the district and Lincoln High School officials and look forward to resolving this matter and returning to Lincoln to finish out a strong season.”

District spokesperson Phil Roeder told WHO this is an internal matter and he too would not comment until the investigation is over.

The coaches’ leave became effective Tuesday, and the investigation process conducted by the human resources department began Wednesday.

Roeder says they do not have a deadline for this process, but they’d like to resolve the issue soon, so they don’t distract from the entire football season.

Assistant coach Joe Bianchi will serve as head coach while the investigation is ongoing.
