DES MOINES, Iowa – Officials with the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority met with the Des Moines City Council Monday morning to discuss the potential future of e-scooters in Des Moines.

No major decisions were made. The meeting focused more on the different concerns the city council had.

During the meeting, many questions came up regarding legal issues, hours people would be able to rent the scooters, potential traffic issues, where the scooters would be stationed, and the radius the e-scooters could travel.

“From DART’s perspective we see e-scooters as a potential benefit and a potential option for increasing mobility in the region, if they’re done right. And I think there is, clearly, as we heard from council, there are a lot of questions and concerns, that need to be explored further,” said Luis Montoya, DART Planning Manager.

Montoya says they are in the fact-finding stage right now.

If the program moves forward, the next step would be determining where to test it.
