POLK COUNTY, Iowa — Authorities are investigating after kids discovered human remains in Polk County on Tuesday.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 4300 block of N. Baseline Street around 10:35 a.m. after a caller said their grandchildren discovered what appeared to be human bones while playing in a pile of dirt.

Polk County detectives say the remains appear to be old.

The investigation is ongoing.
