A unique Des Moines charity wants to help out other local charities in need of tech help.

Next month, software devlopers will gather for the Des Moines Charity Hackathon to create something new.

During the hackathon, organizers want to focus on helping charities that are dealing with tech problems ranging from website issues to apps, or even simple software updates.

Organizers are also looking for more volunteers to help during the hackathon.

They say this event gives developers a chance to learn new things in the field and network with other experts.

“Maybe a developer never really focused on mobile development before and they can come in and say well ‘maybe I can learn about this.’ And then when they go back to the companies well maybe they have some more experience so they can actually bring that benefit to the companies as well,” explained organizer, Dustin Thostenson.

Charities need to apply no later than June 1st. The hackathon starts June 12th.
