SAC COUNTY, Iowa – Authorities have released the identification of human remains found inside a home that burned down in Sac County on Friday.

The State Medical Examiner’s Office used dental records to positively identify the remains as those of 48-year-old Daniel Robert Mielk. Authorities do not suspect foul play and say Mielk died of smoke inhalation and thermal injuries.

According to Sac County Sheriff's officials, Mielk lived alone in the residence.

The Auburn Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 3200 Block of 390th Street about 8 a.m. Friday.

By the time crews arrived, the house had burned to the ground. The sheriff's office said they received reports that Mielk did not show up for work that day.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
