Saturday evening a crash between a semi and a car on Interstate 80-35 sent one woman to the hospital.

The crash happened around 9 o’clock just under the Douglas Avenue overpass in Urbandale.

A car got pinned under the semi, smashing the entire front end of the vehicle. Crews had to rescue a woman from her vehicle.

An ambulance took her to the hospital but authorities haven’t released her name pending family notification. Her injuries were described as very serious.

Urbandale Police Officer Randy Peterson says they are still investigating the specifics that led up to the accident but confirms the car hit the semi from behind.

One lane of traffic going east was closed until 1 a.m. Sunday as crews cleaned up the area.
