DES MOINES, Iowa – One person was killed when a vehicle caught fire in a Des Moines church parking lot Sunday night.

Firefighters were called to Abundant Life Church in the 2600 block of East 37th Street at about 9:10 p.m. and found a car on fire up against a snow bank.

Once the fire was under control, crews found a man dead in the driver’s seat.

Brian O’Keefe with the Des Moines Fire Department said it appeared the car had struck the snow bank in multiple areas before starting on fire.

The man’s body is being examined by the Polk County Medical Examiner.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of death and fire.
